The Federation of Somalia Universities (FESU) thrilled to join the Cooperation of Islamic Universities (CIU) initiative and happy to invite her fellow members to join also while it was paved the way them legally and rid of all restricted obligations against Somalia higher education institutions industry.
Obviously, the main cause was the eruption of civil war in 1988 and the following collapse of the Somalia central state in 1991 as severely disrupted all public social services in Somalia. As result of that, the education system in Somalia at that time was entirely destroyed. It caused prolonged dilemma and periods of instability and intermittent conflict constrained the ability of local populations and the international community to rehabilitate the country’s educational facilities and resources. However, destruction of the sector went far beyond the deterioration of physical infrastructure.
The Cooperation of Islamic Universities (CIU) is a non-governmental organization that has an independent legal character. Its membership-based organization includes 280 Islamic Universities at the present time and ahead before 2030. CIU’s was established in 2005 upon a resolution issued by the Arab League and the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC). The mission of CIU aims at “Assisting and coordinating the efforts of Islamic Universities to prepare capable graduates who can serve their territories communities and preserve its unified culture and civilization, as well as to assist in developing its natural resources.”
CIU is a networking association representing both national university unions and independent virtual universities by also advocating and institutional voice for academic quality through accreditation, CIU is a Islamic image of culturization-granting network and uniting universities and looking for their recognition as institutional and programmatic accrediting protocols.
Due to the ongoing FESU efforts, there are now close to 50 higher education institutions (HEIs) from different imperative sourced linkages with different capacities functioning across the country.
