The Universities South Africa (USAf) notes, with serious concern, the recent article published by Daily Investor on 19 April 2026, titled “South Africa’s biggest universities are collapsing.”
The article makes sweeping and damaging claims, which, rather than contributing constructively to an informed public discourse, serve to undermine confidence in the public higher education system. Of particular concern is the manner in which the reputations of no fewer than ten public universities are impugned through unsubstantiated insinuations of mismanagement, corruption, institutional dysfunction, and poor governance. In the absence of credible evidence, such assertions are both irresponsible and prejudicial.
“Since we are from the Academic media professionals we know that such malicious attacks are threat and going to destroy something good and beautiful so FESU which is an institutional Media Network of Universities from Somalia a nation located at Horn of Africa we are very sorry what happened to our academic-peer comrades at South-Africa as we have the right to act our immediate support and protection to them” Said by Prof. Dr. Daud Abdi Daud in a phone call from outside Somalia today.
The Federation of Somalia Universities (FESU), created under the auspices from Somalia media professionals in October 21, 2022. It is a membership-based organization serving as private and nonprofit Community Based Organization (CBO) and as education programs working NGO in the national higher education community sector through: expertise & trends analysis, publications & portals, advisory services, peer-to-peer learning, events as well as doing national, regional, continental and global level advocacy by developing Somalia higher education system after the collapse of the central government since 1990.
